He also is a multiple property owner. He is a, I don't know, you, your payroll company. don't, I know that you've got a different position on there, but, and then he also has a venture capitalist group that they just purchased a company about a year ago called bustedtees.com. So if you like novelty t-shirts, check out bustedtees.com.
kind of stream like on YouTube TV and stuff like that. You probably see their commercials a lot on there. They do a really good job of that. Scale back a little bit, still see it on there. The biggest thing that it's kind of reason why we have this podcast a little bit, we're going to be an episode number 148 today. Biggest thing is he's a really good personal coach, really good business coach. So you're like, yeah, but I never heard this guy doesn't have a book. He doesn't do seminars and stuff like that. Don't need that to be really good at that. So go check out 147.

episodes that we have in our archives and see if he's a good fit for you. And as I always said, you don't like him, call me. I'll be better. So that's not true, but it's kind of true. Anyway, man, how are you doing, bud? What's going on in your world? What's going on in Eugene, Oregon today? Do you have any snow this week or did it warm up?
Brent Wright (04:45.771)
Yeah
Good.
Brent Wright (04:52.317)
No snow, but we did get an inch of rain yesterday. An inch and over a quarter inch this morning since midnight.
Blair Armstrong (04:56.275)
An itch! Good God!
Blair Armstrong (05:04.383)
Dude, I don't know how you do it. I if we had an inch of, I'll just tell you this, if we had an inch of rain here just because our ground doesn't absorb it well, there literally would be people kayaking down the road. I kid you not.
Brent Wright (05:15.813)
Yeah, no, I lit off some bonfires last night because of the rain and I don't like to smoke out my neighbors. So I have, I have very hot, very effective bonfires and this one was pretty large. So the pile was about 20 feet high by about 30 feet around. And so the flames were licking up about a hundred yards into the air last night while it was raining. It was just amazing. Yeah. And it's, yeah.
Blair Armstrong (05:38.719)
No shit.
That's awesome.
Brent Wright (05:42.593)
and it was all gone in like six hours, so.
Blair Armstrong (05:45.919)
So it's probably a good reason for you to do that, right? For people that don't normally do that, it's probably good for you to do that for the reason of the trees are wet and stuff like that. So you really have a less chance of catching stuff on fire.
Brent Wright (05:57.443)
Yep, yep, and I'm gonna light another one off tonight. So, yep, I'll text you a picture of it later.
Blair Armstrong (06:00.755)
Man, yeah, so get some video and that's posted on the old guy's still rock website. This is what Brent does. This is his other job. I'm not selling his other stuff. So what else is going on? Actually, you know what? We haven't gotten any feedback lately over the last couple of weeks just because different things. I know you've had some transition. What's going on with busted tease dot com?
Brent Wright (06:22.062)
So Busted Teas, it is the slow season for e-comm. So we have a big push in November around Thanksgiving time, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday, those types of things. so big push in November, big push in December, obviously for Christmas, people buying gifts, things like that. Kind of starts to die down that third week of December because of shipping.
And then usually we have a fairly strong January where people got a little bit of money for Christmas and things like that. And then we have usually a fairly reasonable, I wouldn't say strong, but a fairly reasonable February due to tax season and stuff like that, people getting their tax returns back. And so I wouldn't tell you that we lit the world on fire, literally, or figuratively last month, but we had a solid month and
And we're looking at going into, again, the slow season is kind of now through July. So we're moving into lightweight t-shirts. We're going away from hoodies. We're going into tank top season, things like that. Hats have been an extremely good seller hats. Our Amazon stuff is just ticked up quite a bit. We've backed off our social media a little bit.
Not horribly, but we're only getting three to six posts out a week instead of three or four out a day. Our advertising, Google had an algorithm change about two weeks ago, so we backed away from Google and we're doing direct marketing. And so that's why you might not see us out as much, but we're still hitting those prior customers, trying to get prior customers to buy, incentivizing prior customers.
Right now, it's stabilizing the whole business structure. So when we bought it, I wouldn't tell you that it was.
Brent Wright (08:25.442)
you know, a fire heap that was burning, but it had some structural issues. And so we spent the last year really getting all the structural issues figured out, getting them in place and rebuilding the website, making a better user experience, making sure that when people come to the website, that not only do they have a good experience, but they want to tell others. And so that's all done. We're really set and have created a precipice for the next leap forward. And so.
Alex Velez, our marketing guy, has been doing a great job. We weren't looking at selling busted tees and we're still entertaining the idea of possibly, but we had the two largest companies in the world in print on demand media request a meeting with us last week. And we have another meeting today. So.
I'm kind of excited for that. It's hard to let go of your baby once you've recreated it or created it. But on the other hand, it's kind of super cool to have a CMO of one of the largest companies in the world say, I'm a little bit jealous of what you guys have done and I'm a little bit jealous of the organic traction you guys have created. So it's a little validation, little feather in the cap, if you will.
Blair Armstrong (09:29.685)
you
Blair Armstrong (09:46.793)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Brent Wright (09:52.821)
one of the largest companies reaches out to you, but two of the largest companies in the world have reached out to us in the last week. So I'm pretty excited.
Blair Armstrong (10:02.227)
That's awesome. Yeah, which is kind of cool, what you just shared with everybody. And I'd really go back and listen to that, because this is where I just kind of wrote some notes down for this week. And I talked about it little bit. And I just kind of want to read you this because I think this is going to really play into what we're going to talk about today. So I said. And you're really good at this, as you guys heard for your first timers here, those guys are just coming back the second third or fourth time to it, as you know, I.
Mentioned all the things that Brent does so this is really gonna kind of he's gonna give you a lot of insight in this today and I'm excited for you guys to share this because Sometimes we get stuck in a scarcity mindset. So Is your life this is what I have for you This is your question to you is your life being shaped by what you don't have or by what you believe each that is still possible Because I want to dive really into this that you know said something today's it's I literally want to dive into something that
This seems like either abundance or scarcity really just kind of controls your decisions, your relationships, your life. what are you, were you ever in a scarcity mindset or have you always been in abundance mindset? And if you were in a scarcity mindset, how did you get out of it?
Brent Wright (11:21.656)
So growing up, and I've said this before, I've had to disband myself from this statement. I always used to say that I was a poor white kid from Myrtle Creek, Oregon.
Blair Armstrong (11:32.49)
Mm.
Brent Wright (11:34.798)
Okay, so what does that tell you? That tells you scarcity, right? I grew up, my dad didn't make a lot of money. My mom was a stay at home mom. We had to put in a two acre garden every year to be able to grow enough food to sustain our family. We had four kids in our family, the two adults. We had a large extended family. We cut our own wood. We...
built our own things, we did all of our own stuff because my folks didn't have enough money to pay other people to do it. So the scarcity did one of two things for me. set the tone mentally and emotionally and also a little bit physically for me. But psychologically, it always told me that I had to save for a rainy day. How many times have you heard that in your life? Right? Save for a rainy day. So
It taught me a lot of good skills. So I can farm, I can ranch, I can build anything. I don't need to go buy stuff. I am resourceful, all of those things. So I would tell you that me growing up in a scarcity mindset was beneficial on many, many levels. It gives me the opportunity to look at something and say, I can do that. On the other hand, it held me back because I was always hoarding everything. I was hoarding money.
Blair Armstrong (12:54.601)
Mm-hmm.
Brent Wright (13:02.831)
I was hoarding time, was hoarding resources. I was always afraid that the world's gonna come to an end if I don't save, if I don't collect, if I don't stack. And so that's holding me back because structurally, everything, if it's stagnant, goes back. Water, if it sits in a pool too long, it gets algae, becomes undrinkable.
Blair Armstrong (13:15.829)
Mm-hmm.
Brent Wright (13:33.155)
Right? Money, the same thing. Resources are the same thing. so scarcity always tells us that there's not enough to go around. And scarcity kind of fits into society today because if you see somebody winning, that means that somebody has to lose. And everybody's afraid to make somebody else lose nowadays. Me? I don't mind.
Blair Armstrong (14:00.87)
Right?
Brent Wright (14:02.304)
If I win, somebody's gotta lose. If I lose, somebody won. And I wanna celebrate their wins at the same time about understand why I lost versus why they won. And I wanna learn from that and grow from that. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Blair Armstrong (14:04.693)
Yeah.
Blair Armstrong (14:17.749)
want to hold you right there. And I know you've got a couple of things. Don't lose your split to where you want to go with that. So I've heard you say, you know, that was just, you know, poor guy, know, poor kid from Myrtle Creek.
Blair Armstrong (14:32.553)
How much of that do you think, and we're kind of getting to the age, our parents had, their parents kind of went through the depression, right? How much of that scarcity mindset do you think really came back for? And so this is actually a question to our listeners. And if you're not old enough to kind of have that generational there, go back, ask your parents to have them tell you about their parents and maybe it came from them. But I feel that sometimes that is a generational pass through.
Like my mom and dad, their parents went through the depression and it got passed on to them. And then you hold onto stuff and you don't let stuff go to it because you have this scarcity mindset. Or what you just said again to it is you have this, you see somebody winning and like, boy, I wish I could do that. You know, they have more money. They, they wiped their butt with a hundred dollar bills type of thing. I just don't have that. And it, and it, right. And you said something really good to it is just like,
it runs in your mind, it puts you into that mindset of I'm never going to have abundance or I may have a certain amount of abundance, but I'm never going to have what they have. which I also love too now is you kind of want to see this kumbaya. You said so many good things and I just kind of recapping what you said. There's this kumbaya is like.
Brent Wright (15:55.171)
What's the trophy society? Everybody deserves to win, right? Everybody deserves a trophy.
Blair Armstrong (15:55.314)
I everyone's a win. And if like you're, if you're competing against somebody and you went to there's like, this guy's or they forgot where they came from. I can't believe how tenacious they were being just to try to win this, this piece of pie. And you become the villain, right? The winner becomes a villain. And it's like, why is winning bad?
Brent Wright (16:15.672)
Yeah, in somebody's story.
Blair Armstrong (16:22.409)
Why is winning bad? So anyway, keep going on with your stuff, dude. I just, it was just some really good stuff that you had right there.
Brent Wright (16:28.11)
No, it's just straight up fear-based living. It's playing defense all the time. How much energy does it take to play defense? You're a sports guy. How many more people are on defense than are on offense?
Blair Armstrong (16:37.225)
Yeah.
Blair Armstrong (16:41.839)
You got the same amount of people, also defense wins games. That's what they always say.
Brent Wright (16:44.984)
Well, no, what I'm saying is the type of person put it put into defense, right? So the defensive, the defensive backs and defensive ends are always 300 pounds, six eights, right? The offensive guys are five, nine and 170 pounds. Right. And so the difference physically is it takes more resources to play defense, which is funny because you're hoarding resources.
Blair Armstrong (16:48.099)
Yeah.
Blair Armstrong (16:56.883)
Yeah. Right. Right.
Blair Armstrong (17:01.461)
Yeah, I see what you're saying. Yep.
Brent Wright (17:14.306)
to play defense, but it takes more resources to play defense than it does to play offense.
Blair Armstrong (17:19.423)
Wow. Yeah.
Blair Armstrong (17:24.927)
Yeah.
Brent Wright (17:28.194)
Why do you think the quarterback is the highest paid individual on the field?
Blair Armstrong (17:33.503)
He's the one who wins games. He's the one who wins games.
Brent Wright (17:35.286)
He's the one who moves.
Blair Armstrong (17:40.085)
So I just, just looking over my notes here.
What do you see? How do you think scarcity mindset kind of sneaks into people's minds? What is that? What's that one thing? Is it go back to what I said earlier? Is it been a generational thing or is it something that happened from them to that? Because I'm asking you this because you're a good business coach and personal coach on there. I'm asking this to do it. Is it something that happened to them a long time ago that the next time that they win, they just kind of get, we talked about this too, is it got a certain
right and I kind of hit that ceiling that thermometer I can't get it to the next level I can't get it from 75 degrees to 80 degrees or if I do hit 80 I slowly go back down to the 75 degrees part is that something that you're seeing with your coaching that these guys want to be better but they're so scared to get to the next level that scarcity mindset is just a lot easier place to be
Brent Wright (18:38.496)
It is comfortable. And we've talked about comfort in past episodes, but it's all the things. So in one of my coaching sessions this morning, the lady, because I coach a couple that owns a Deck Family Farms, and Chris said that she fears sharing her wins because she comes off as not humble. So she's got a fear of being humble.
For each person, it's different. Mine was similarly placed is I've been the silent but deadly guy, right? I don't share until I've accomplished it. I fear and have feared in the past failure. I think societally, religiously,
Brent Wright (19:34.819)
family, all the things kind of tie into this. So it's interesting. I had an interaction with our church. I went to the church board meeting to present a man and son's Bible study. I'm trying to get this Bible study off the ground and there's a hole in our church and I'm trying to fill it. And there's the hole is, is men teaching their sons
how to be men, biblically. And I printed off all color copies to hand out to the board. The board had been received the email and the secretary of the church and secretary of the board had printed them all off in black and white. And when I passed them around, everybody was in awe of the fact that I could afford
Listen to what I said, afford to print in color, which I found interesting. So you come to church every Sunday to worship a God that says in the Bible that he provides all things that you need. So there's no scarcity in that teaching. But yet these same people,
Blair Armstrong (20:54.163)
Yeah.
Brent Wright (21:02.636)
are living a life of scarcity because they don't want to use their resources.
That was a struggle for me.
Blair Armstrong (21:13.203)
Yeah, and you know, this is such a
such a big subject to it. I deal with the same thing with, I actually have a client right now. She really wants to buy a house. But her financial advisor, great guy, I him, I know him well, super good guy. I'm not.
Brent Wright (21:34.21)
You won't have enough to live if you buy this house.
Blair Armstrong (21:37.257)
You have to sell your house first before I'm gonna let you buy this house. And she has the funds to do both. Why? She has the funds to buy the house and when the other house sells, she'll replenish those funds. But you don't know what's going to happen. I have to be, you know, I'm advising you not to do this, right?
Brent Wright (21:49.08)
Mm-hmm.
Brent Wright (21:54.081)
It's the chicken little thing. The sky's falling. Always the sky is falling. Well, the sky's always going to fall.
Blair Armstrong (21:58.41)
the world fall. And it's driving her crazy. I jokingly said to her, I'm going to make a t-shirt that says free blah, blah. I'm not going to mention the name in there. So free blah, blah, free blah, blah. Free person's name from this person's name jail. So I had her name and then his name and his name was the jail.
Brent Wright (22:22.798)
Mm-hmm.
Blair Armstrong (22:27.667)
She goes, love it. Can you make it up so when I can wear it around him? I'm like, in a roundabout way, the guy's doing his job. But again, it's just like, here we are, this scarcity mindset. And she's very forward thinking. I know I can get this done.
Brent Wright (22:31.788)
Mmm!
Brent Wright (22:41.068)
Well, what are you saving? What are you saving for? You could die tomorrow.
Blair Armstrong (22:45.269)
to die tomorrow. And I tell everybody just like, do not be afraid. Like when you're, when you're making this and I just got a thing, this guy, this making a wanted to buy one of our houses. And we're talking, it's like, I just not in a really good position right now and doing some different things. I'd have to sell my condo. I'm like, well, I have a buyer for your condo. And then, you know, so we were kind of talking about that. And then I go, no, I always heard you. I've never seen a hearse with a trailer hitch.
So can't take it with you. Yes, there's gonna be some uncomfortable feelings between point A to point B why we're selling your house to buy this house. But, know, and they just wrote me, it's like, it's just too much right now, I can't do it. Okay, that's cool. We'll go find somebody else to it, so.
Brent Wright (23:32.953)
And everybody has their comfort level with it, right? So it's not a judgment, it's changing your mindset. So for me, the trigger was getting out of scarcity mindset. The trigger for me was realizing that all resources flow and ebb and have to. So.
Blair Armstrong (23:37.321)
No, not at all.
Brent Wright (24:01.43)
Some days your river's gonna be overflowing and some days it's going to be a trickle. But if you come at it with the abundance mindset and use these three key points, this will help you. Abundance always says, there's more opportunity than I can ever see. Collaboration multiplies outcomes. And I wanna talk about that here in a second. I can create value, not just compete for it.
It's faith over fear, creation over protection. So again, back to our sports analogy, why does the quarterback make the most money? Because he makes the most moves, right? He's the guy that's always moving on the field. So defense usually moves three to five moves. I don't know if you've seen a good quarterback.
And I don't know the teams or any of that type of stuff, but my ex-father-in-law used to watch Dan Marino and was just in awe of him. And so I started studying his moves. His average play averaged about 15 different transitions. So defense, five transitions, offense, 15. Three times the effort for three times the reward.
Blair Armstrong (25:00.051)
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Brent Wright (25:27.714)
For me...
I've seen that play out. If I move forward faster and more efficiently, then I have more effect. You've seen this, we've talked about it before, in the school that I helped to facilitate. We pushed that in six years. We went from 72 to 300 kids, right? I've been able to make more moves, more efficient.
by doing them quicker. Last week I just bought another house.
Brent Wright (26:06.54)
I went in, told my wife, hey, we bought another house. She's like, okay, cool.
Blair Armstrong (26:10.172)
Hahaha
Brent Wright (26:13.11)
I had no doubt you would buy something else. And again, I'm not bragging. I'm just saying get to a point where you can make large moves quicker and feel comfortable about
Blair Armstrong (26:16.009)
Right.
Blair Armstrong (26:30.015)
Is it right there to how long, and I want to go back to this and I know we talked about that there's how long did it get you to get to that point? Because there has to be at one point of even when you started your, you had your first two or three properties that you had. How long did it take you to kind of get over that hurdle? Like, I don't know if I should do this fourth one. And then I got to the sixth one.
Brent Wright (26:53.152)
I bought five in one week.
Blair Armstrong (26:55.187)
Yeah, but how long how much mentally did you have to get over that? And I
Brent Wright (26:59.758)
So it's really tough. So if you know my story, I was a millionaire by the time I was 25, multimillionaire, had multiple properties. I was bankrupt by the time I was 27. And I had replaced it all from 27 to 35. And I retired at 35.
Brent Wright (27:26.574)
So at 27 was the precipice for me realizing that abundance is the mindset that I need to live in.
Brent Wright (27:37.646)
So I was homeless.
Blair Armstrong (27:39.733)
You
Brent Wright (27:41.686)
and in seven years recreated and multiplied all the wealth that I lost in two years.
Blair Armstrong (27:53.353)
Well, Brent, that's just an anomaly. Not everyone can do that.
Brent Wright (27:58.049)
I've helped others create that.
Blair Armstrong (28:00.83)
Right.
Brent Wright (28:02.956)
Here's the thing though, so people get afraid. They get into a scarcity mindset.
I know a gentleman that I was coaching a year, year and a half ago. He was living in a rental, had a bunch of money he was gonna pay taxes on. And I pushed him to buy the house he was living in.
and he was afraid, he was scared to death. How can I go from $500 a month rent to $1,100 a month? You have $300,000 in the bank that's doing nothing. Nothing is moving. You're gonna lose that 300,000 and you're still gonna be living in a rental. Take that 300,000 and pay cash for that house. He.
Blair Armstrong (28:52.181)
So great subject, great subject in there. So I'm gonna keep that scenario, cause we talked about this today, this video came out on YouTube and there was this guy talking about Redfin and there's certain areas that are getting quite the hit on real estate. And he was like, gosh, you know, because our house payment, because mortgage rates, whatever, which are, for all you guys watching, for all you guys that are thinking like six and 7 % is really bad, that's the problem.
Brent Wright (29:12.366)
I don't even care.
Blair Armstrong (29:21.919)
They're six percent money you're paid. I guarantee you somewhere someone one of you that are watching this have a credit card you're paying 26 percent on but you're afraid and don't even realize it and you don't care that or you you freak out because you have to pay six percent on a house. Now I understand those are two major differences in pricing but understand that mindset. I'm paying 26 percent on this credit card. I'll never pay it off but I can get
Brent Wright (29:31.254)
and don't even realize it.
Blair Armstrong (29:51.861)
I can get $300,000, $400,000, $500,000, a million dollars for 6%.
but I won't do that. So it's a lot easier for me to rent and it may be $600 difference and it's $600 less expensive to rent and to purchase. But then I don't factor in that I'm actually building an asset that I'm actually, and I know that you guys that you hear this, this is not a realtor speech, but you've been trained that it's too expensive to buy a house and these mortgage rates are out of control at 7%. Dude, I bought my first house at 11.5%.
Brent Wright (30:29.59)
I bought my first one at 16.5 and had to buy it down to 15.9.
Blair Armstrong (30:34.037)
Yeah. So I want to use that aspect of using real estate right now. Brent's using some other things right now is get trained and we hear like, oh my God, mortgage rates are 7 % and different things. First of all, you don't have to have the $600,000 house right off the bat. It's OK to have a $200,000 house or a condo. It's OK to have a $300,000. You don't have to pull mortgage rates adjust. You can.
It's why you have refinancing and do some different things. But we've been scared by the media that the 7%, the 7.25, the sky's falling, the market's gonna crash. It's not going to, well, I'm not gonna say that's not gonna crash. But just don't be afraid. Who cares? Are you gonna, dude.
Brent Wright (31:18.19)
It could, but who cares? Then you buy. You buy when there's blood in the water, right?
Blair Armstrong (31:25.757)
Yeah, I mean, it's definitely a buyer's market right now and certain sellers want to get out of their stuff. And we're in a little bit different market here. We're in a walk market, not a need market.
Brent Wright (31:32.654)
Shoot, 2008 through 2015, I bought seven properties when everybody else was selling. There was blood in the water, dude. I was a shark.
Blair Armstrong (31:43.926)
No, no. So you're taking, now again, we talked about today and that's okay to have that. So maybe some people who have scarcity mindset, what you just said is like, man, this guy's bragging. It's not bragging. It's an advantage of a situation that was presented. not even an advantage of the situation. It's an opportunity that was presented to him. He was in the right spot at the right time. A lot of people have done it.
Brent Wright (32:07.737)
They chose to lose and I chose to win. It's a choice. It's everywhere, the media, social media, everything that you listen to, people are telling you.
Brent Wright (32:28.375)
It kills your growth. keeps you stuck. People are telling you that...
You need to just stop, you need to back off, you need to think smart, you need to do all these things. It's hoarding everything, it's fear of being competitive, it's jealousy, it's a control feature, it's a lack of trust, they're breeding this into you. You know, this one thing that in my notes that keeps coming up into my head is...
I'm too late, I've missed my window. We talk about this all the time, right? So if you're 65, 68, 72 years old, it's not too late to start over. It's never too late. I could have said at 25, I'm done. I could have retired at 25. In fact, I did semi-retire at 25. And then I was homeless by 27.
Blair Armstrong (33:02.825)
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Blair Armstrong (33:15.593)
Yeah. Yeah.
Brent Wright (33:27.161)
When you get scared and you start pulling in, it creates a problem for you, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically, all the things.
and you start hoarding and you start distrusting and you start not looking for opportunities, you might fail, but you might win too.
You just stay stuck instead of building something bigger. I don't know anybody who doesn't want to build bigger. Everybody wants to, and they're jealous of people that do, but then they don't create any action to do that.
Blair Armstrong (34:09.481)
When you're coaching somebody in this part of the business, there is a point of it's not just a jump in and not really look at your surroundings. mean, there's some calculations that have to be made on this, right? I mean, there has to be conversations with like business coach with you or maybe some other saying, you know, peel back the end and really look at it. you, four of you guys, you know, started your venture capitalist group and you decided to go after bussetees.com that was for sale, there was a lot of due diligence.
in that decision of where we're going to do and do some different things. So it's, it's not going like, Oh my God, okay, I'm going to go buy a $500,000 house and I'm going to go make it work.
Brent Wright (34:48.428)
Yeah, don't put your last thousand dollars that you're gonna use for anything on red and push all your chips to the middle and wait for the roulette wheel to swing, right? I mean, that's dumb. But you can't take that thousand dollars and put it in an envelope and put it under your mattress and then not have any food.
Blair Armstrong (34:51.188)
Right.
Blair Armstrong (34:59.485)
Right, right, right. Yeah.
Blair Armstrong (35:10.197)
100%. There has to be some faithful calculations that do that. And I want to go back to, we've said this a lot through this thing, is if you watch enough of our episodes, we always have some thread or common thread that we talk about our faith and our biblical backing and stuff like that, and our faith and relationship with God.
And if you want to go back and read like the ultimate blueprint of life and blueprint of business, it's in there a lot. You are creator. Wants us to live in abundance. You have to work for it 1000 percent. It is not going to come for free. It's going to be super hard and do some stuff. And when you get knocked down, which kind of puts us into that scare, which Brenda is talking about, when you get knocked down or maybe fail two, three or four or five, six, fifteen, twenty five times, whatever it may be.
It puts you, it's like, oh God, you know, I'm just too tired. I'm just, you know what? I'm going to give up. That's it. I'm out. So now that sets the tone. What we're trying to help you with, even those guys that have been successful in the past that Brent has, have been successful in the past, but all of a sudden they've hit this losing streak. I'm just going to not try anymore. I'm just going to move on to something else. All you're doing is such, is setting a trigger in your mind of a scarcity mindset. Like that could never be done.
Brent Wright (36:11.054)
you
Brent Wright (36:30.179)
Yeah.
Blair Armstrong (36:30.515)
and then someone else is going to come behind you and you were probably that person that came up behind somebody that can never be done. And Brent goes, hold my beer. It runs out and gets it done. He's equipped a lot differently, but that's why he's a good coach. And so I'm telling him, telling you guys to use him or reach out to him, but I'm telling you guys to use him or reach out to him because he's been through it. And it's not this, you know,
Brent Wright (36:40.876)
Hahaha!
Blair Armstrong (37:00.863)
You'll buy a book, read it and forget about it. He's gonna peel back your onion and he's gonna find out how what makes things work. This is why we do this podcast. This is why we're in episode 148. If you haven't done so yet, why haven't you hit the subscribe button? We're literally, with Brent and I, especially Brent, we're literally giving you golden nuggets every week to get out of that loop that you're stuck in. And if you say, well, I'm not stuck in a loop, bullshit, because everyone is stuck in the one, everyone.
I got the first swear word today.
Brent Wright (37:31.214)
Speaking of golden nuggets, I'll give you guys the golden nugget for the day. So you asked earlier, how do you shift that identity? Three things to shift that identity. Awareness, catch your scarcity thoughts.
Brent Wright (37:53.187)
Number two, reframe them. Ask what's possible here. Remember my decision-making tree, which I'll go through here in a second, give you the second golden nugget. The third one is action. Do something that proves abundance is real. A small micro action that proves abundance is real. If you can make small incremental steps, then you can start taking bigger steps. And yes, you might fall, but you fall less far.
than you did before. So remember my decision-making process. Does this serve me? Is this reasonable? Does this get me to my outcome? Is this consistent with my values and standards? If you use the first three things and the four decision-making process, abundance will become clear and fruitful.
Blair Armstrong (38:54.069)
Here's a question. Yeah, but how long does it take? I want something right now.
Brent Wright (39:00.706)
takes as long as it takes depending upon the situation.
but the key is action.
Brent Wright (39:11.512)
How many times has your wife told you, I need you to take out the trash and you said, I'll get to it later.
If you just change that one thing, she asks you to take out the trash, you get up, you take out the trash. What's that? Is that gonna create an abundance in your relationship or a scarcity in your relationship?
Blair Armstrong (39:33.013)
Holy, by Neds, for sure.
Brent Wright (39:34.722)
Because if you don't take out the trash and it's getting over full, she fears putting another thing in that trash because you're not gonna take it out anytime soon. That's scarcity.
Brent Wright (39:48.589)
Not only that, it doesn't prove leadership between you and her. So then she also then has scarcity about your relationship. Well, if he's not willing to take out the trash for me, then maybe he's not willing to do this other thing that I want him to do.
Blair Armstrong (40:06.729)
That's a good point too, right? It's something we've been talking about business for the most of this episode, but that's such a great thing. That's a great point as well as you keep pushing stuff off to it, it does build fear into your partner and that could go vice versa. You may be asking your wife something like, okay, get to it in a little bit or not pay attention to it.
Brent Wright (40:32.972)
You are breeding a scarcity mindset into your family, into your home, into her brain, into your brain by not taking action. Action is the key to every successful outcome.
How many times have you been watching a football game?
and instead of taking the time.
Brent Wright (41:00.408)
to roll out and throw the ball 50 yards. So instead of doing that, they roll out and kneel. And what does everybody in the crowd do? Man, I can't believe they just did that.
Blair Armstrong (41:15.209)
Why would you do something wide open?
Brent Wright (41:17.43)
Why would you stay in the same spot? So you'll judge a football game, but you won't judge yourself.
Blair Armstrong (41:31.84)
I want to go back to relationships, right? Cause we've been talking about so much there. This could just kind of pop in your mind. And I know that you and your wife do it. I don't know if you have a set date, but having like a date night, right? How important that is. when things start going, business gets too busy or life gets too busy and doing different things and you don't have them, you start having this scarcity mindset.
this is not going to work out. I just feel I'm on this island. I'm up on myself, whatever to it. Yeah. Exactly. And so you start that and the resentment starts coming into it. What you just said to it, he's not making me a priority. She's not making me a priority. And it's all because of the scarcity, scarcity mindset to where being this part of it.
Brent Wright (42:06.734)
He doesn't make me a priority. She doesn't make me a priority.
Blair Armstrong (42:27.293)
Okay, I've got, I'm a business owner and this could be for man or woman, doesn't matter. I have a business owner, I got this going on in my life, I got this going in life. I know that he loves me and I know that he will be there. Same thing with she and all that stuff and you take that for granted. But when you don't cultivate that and it turns into, the date nights turn into a scarcity mindset that, I'll get to it later, which is typically a scarcity mindset.
that plant, that relationship, whatever it may be, is going to die. And you have to be bold enough, which Brent said, and there's sometimes a leadership is going to change in that relationship, be it men or women, you have to be bold enough in that relationship to be a leader at a certain point in time, like, hey,
Brent Wright (42:56.558)
starts to die. Yep.
Blair Armstrong (43:15.145)
We kind of got stuck in the scarcity mindset that we're going to come back to it, come back to it. We need go have a date night. We need get back on track to be doing this. we need to maybe carve out some time to sit on the couch for an hour and just really catch up at least once a week type of thing. you know, and I...
Brent Wright (43:32.281)
So this week we're actually circumventing our date night and doing a family date night. And we are going to Good Friday service at seven at our church. And so we do incorporate date nights with the kids and have in the past. One major thing is so that my son can learn how to treat a woman.
Blair Armstrong (43:39.667)
Yeah.
Blair Armstrong (43:59.893)
Yeah.
Brent Wright (44:00.047)
And my daughter can learn how to be treated by a man. Right. And then so and then secondarily, my wife is as an open checkbook, if you will, to just say, I need a date night from you.
Perfect. Let's make that happen.
Blair Armstrong (44:28.597)
Yeah, it's so important, you you're using for your kids, which is awesome. That's a great teaching spot to a tune, but you have guys that have been married for 20, 30, 40 years, right? I still think it's real important. That's why I think that the solution of marriages is I've said this in the past. It's way too easy. And if it's been a little bit while, you know, go on a couple of date nights on some stuff or just.
We start looking elsewhere when we forget what the priority is and fact, forgot what the abundance of putting into the relationships to help them become more abundant, as you say, get better and to add more for those little date nights, even though they may be an hour or two hours.
ripple effect of abundance that comes out of that is unmeasurable really at the end of the day. But it is measurable when it comes to a scarcity mindset and you guys decide just to give up and that doesn't solve anything forever. Because now you're just taking that scarcity mindset, you just take it to a new relationship, it's not gonna go away.
Brent Wright (45:20.206)
Yeah. Yep.
Brent Wright (45:36.653)
Yeah.
Blair Armstrong (45:37.404)
You may have like some abundance when you first start dating somebody else. And I'm not making, I've been divorced. I've not had to trust me, so I'm not calling you out. I'm just giving you guys wisdom to really pay attention to that when things start lagging a little bit. Hey, am I living with abundance with my partner, my wife, my husband, or am I living in a scarcity mindset knowing that, I'll get to it later type of thing.
Brent Wright (46:01.465)
Well, it goes back to what I said before. So don't judge others until you judge yourself. She's not doing this for me. He's not doing this for me. I don't feel valued. don't. Well, are you providing value? If you if you're not providing value, you can't expect value.
Blair Armstrong (46:23.903)
So dude, any final thoughts for you?
Brent Wright (46:26.018)
Yep, so the real question here guys, and this might be a little final golden nugget as well, is are you living like there's not enough or are you building like there's no limit?
Blair Armstrong (46:31.733)
Yeah.
Brent Wright (46:45.186)
And then after you've made that decision or had that talk with yourself, go make a damn difference.
Blair Armstrong (46:56.797)
really good stuff in there, guys. you know, people ask Brent a lot. People ask me a lot, you know, why do you guys continue to do this? Because, know, as we always say, we're just throwing one more starfish out there, one more starfish to do some stuff.
